Parkview Hints and Tips for a Successful 1st Day!

TRUST - Please reassure your child that we are good people who will keep them safe, and that they are going to have a great first day!  Kids absorb our energy. If you are upset and nervous, they will be too.  Please know that we are dedicated to ensuring your child is safe and has a quality, fun learning experience.  Thank you for trusting us with your babies!  We take our jobs and responsibilities very seriously and are elated that you are choosing to send your child to school at Parkview!  Attend Open House on August 14, from 5-7 PM to give your child comfort in knowing their teacher, location of their classroom, and an overall sense of confidence about school.

ARRIVE ON TIME TO SCHOOL -  Please let your child’s teacher know at Open House if they may eat breakfast at school to avoid surprises.  If you do want your child to eat breakfast at school, please get them to school early (7:15-7:30 AM) so they have adequate time to eat prior to classes starting at 7:45 AM.  If you want to walk your child to class, arrive before 7:30 AM as that is the cutoff time for entering the building.  Doors lock at 7:30; after then parents drop at the door.

NAME STICKERS - If your child is a bus rider or if you are not able to walk your child to class the first day, we ask that you please place your child’s first and last name, grade level, and teacher’s name on a piece of masking tape or an address label, etc. and tape it to their shirt.  This will make it a very simple process to ensure your child makes it to their class as swiftly as possible.  When nervous, young children often clam up and refuse to tell us their names, which can lead to a lot of unnecessary stress for everyone involved - having this sticker will make things so much better on the first day.

BACKPACK LABELING - Please write your child’s first and last name INSIDE their backpack with a black sharpie.  Do not write it on the outside as that can be a tool used by predators to gain your child’s trust.  This will also come in handy should your child’s name sticker come off on the way to school.

CAR RIDER NUMBERS -  We use car rider number cards and tags to keep our children safe.  Cards are issued to ALL parents (even if your child is a bus rider) and are given out at Open House or placed in your child’s backpack on the first day if you were unable to attend Open House.  We reuse the same numbers each year, so if you are a returning family, your card from last year is still good.  Cards must be presented when picking your child up from school in the office or at car-rider pickup.  Please make sure you keep this card in your glove box.  If you forget it, you will need a picture ID.  We will attach matching car rider tags on your child’s backpack; please leave this tag on the backpack and make sure your child remembers their backpack each day.  This process is described in detail here: Arrival and Dismissal Procedures.

COMMUNICATION - Communication is key to your child having a successful and worry-free experience at school.  Keep us up to date with current phone numbers, email addresses, and ensure you have at least two emergency contacts listed in your child’s online profile on TeacherEase.  Like us on Facebook, check our web site frequently, and check your email regularly to stay in the know on all things Parkview.  To help, read through our Parkview Procedures and Guidelines Manual, check out our Methods of Communication document and reference the Parent Calendar of Events.

If you have questions or need clarification on any information shared here, please contact us at 816-882-1051 or email me at aormsby@cameronschools.org.  We look forward to working with you and your child!
